2018 Shamrock Race FAQs

General Questions:

What do I get for my entry fee?

All participants in the Shamrock Race 5K Run/Walk & rainbowiconRainbow Mile events receive a GUARANTEED tech race shirt, and the post-race food buffet.  All 5K finishers receive a medal. Age group awards are presented for the 5K event for males and females in the top three places in the age groups 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years, 70-74 years and 75+ years.

The first 1,450 participants in the Shamrock Race 5K Run/Walk & Double Dash events also receive a hat.

Double Dash participants: Runners registered for the combined 5K Run/Walk & Rainbow Mile events receive a GUARANTEED long sleeve technical shirt, a hat, a single medal for the 5K, a Double Finisher medal and the food buffet. Participation in the Double Dash is limited to 350 runners.

Are there entry limits for the race?

Yes…

The 5K Run/Walk is limited to 2,300.  The Double Dash is limited to 350.

What are the age limits for the races?

There are no age limits. We encourage participants of all ages to join us.

Is the race events walker friendly?

Yes, we will have plenty of participants that will walk. If you plan to walk the race, we do require that you line up at the back of the race corral so as not to impede the faster runners.

Are there refunds if cannot attend? Can someone else run with my bib no?

NO REFUNDS; ONLY TRANSFERS ALLOWED TO ANOTHER PERSON BEFORE OUR ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES!

Are baby joggers or strollers or pet dogs allowed during the race?

If you choose to run with a baby jogger or a pet dog, you must seed yourself in the back of all runners. It is your responsibility to make sure the baby jogger or pet dog does not impede other runners as well as you must take extra precaution as to your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.  All dogs MUST be kept on a SHORT leash.

Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed for any runner however, we do recommend that runners use extreme precaution when using headphones during the race event for safety reasons.

When is the last day to register?

The last day to register “online” is Thursday, March 15th by 11:00 pm EST.

You must pick up your race packet before the event. We will not mail race packets.

Race Information:

Can I register on race day?

At the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center (PARC) ( MAP):
Race day morning, March 18, from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.  The pricing will be as follows:
5K Run/Walk – $45
Rainbow Mile – $28
Double Dash – $56

Do you accept credit cards for registration race day?

No, cash or check only.

Will there be water stations?

Yes, there will be water station at the halfway point of the 5k event.  Also water is provided at the start & finish areas.

Will there be medical aid stations?

The Medical Aid station is located at start/finish line area and course marshals on all three courses have two-way radios for contact with public safety officials.

Will there be bathrooms/portable toilets available?

Indoor restrooms are available at the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center (PARC) and at The Gathering pavilion.  Portable toilets are available at start/finish area next to the gathering pavilion, adjacent to Kellogg Park, and at the half way point of the 5K course location.

Where can we park for the event and are there shuttle buses?

Parking is available in downtown Plymouth, both on-street and in municipal lots.  The City of Plymouth charges $5 per vehicle in for municipal parking lots and structures.

There are NO shuttle buses for this event.

Where are start/finish lines and the event start times?

THE FINISH LINE SHUTS DOWN AT 10:00 A.M.  Start and Finish lines are at Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth.  Shamrock Race Rainbow Mile at 8:00 am, and 5K at 8:30 am.

What times do the courses close?

THE FINISH LINE SHUTS DOWN AT 10:00 A.M.  The Shamrock Race 5K street course will be available until 10:00 AM at which time any remaining participants must move to the sidewalk or proceed at their own risk. The timing mats will be shut down at 10:00 AM and times will no longer be recorded. Water and food buffet will also be stopped. City of Plymouth Police and subcontractor monitoring may also be discontinued.

B-Tag chip timing?

Runners will need to wear Race Bib on their front – shirt/ jacket/ pants – to be scored in the event (ChronoTrack B-tag is on the bib).

Awards:

Age Group Awards?

Age group awards are presented for the 5K event for males and females in the top three places in the age groups 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years, 70-74 years and 75+ years.  Awards be given out at the Awards tent in Kellogg Park at 9:00 AM. If you think you have won an award, please check at the Awards tent. If you are unable to wait for the official results and pick up your award on race day, you may have a friend pick it up or pay to have it shipped.

Costume Contest:

How do the costume contest awards work?

We will be judging for the “Top Three” winners in the following Divisions:

  • Individual Costume – costumes of only one person
  • Partner Costume – costumes with two people
  • Group Costume – 3 or more people forming a group theme (limited to 3 awards)

Time and Location

Judging Table location: Finish-line Tent in Kellogg Park

Evaluation Time: 7:30 am to 8:30 am.

Awards: At 9:15 am on main stage located at the start-line area.

Costume Contest Rules

  • You must be a registered participant and complete the race event in your costume to be eligible for prizes
  • Groups and Pairs must come to the judging table together to be eligible
  • If you are a group or a pair, you must pick a team captain and a team name. We will use this name and the team captain’s race number for judging.
  • You must have a race number visible to be eligible for the Costume Contest and please keep your race bib number on for winner announcements.
  • You must be present at the awards ceremony to win a prize.
    Judges will be looking for originality, authenticity, overall theme and craftsmanship!

Virtual Race Information:

How does the virtual race work? Will my race packet be mailed to me?

For U.S.A. and Canadian residents only.  Can’t make it to the live event in Plymouth Michigan on March 18, 2018?  Run it somewhere else … We have added a virtual run!  Run the race with family & friends anywhere in the U.S. or world! We ship you the official Shamrock Race Shirt, Hat, themed Medal & custom Bib.

Online registration closes on March 12 at 11:00 P.M.  Starting on March 13, we will mail all participants their race packet (Shirt, Hat, themed Medal & custom Bib).  We will NOT mail race packets to anyone outside of the U.S.A and Canada.
